The tsunami killed hundreds of thousands of lives, the financial crisis ruined millions of lives and the bird flu pandemic will kill millions of lives! What are the common factors? Ignorance, greed, lack of co-operation and lack of leadership!

Ignorance - do you know that thousands of people living in the coastal areas didn't know what is a tsunami? That is why so many children died in the tsunami because they didn't know the danger! They were not taught by their parents or the education system or leaders in their villages or town on what is a tsunami and what are the signs and what to do in the event of a tsunami?

The world leaders, scientists and doctors were tested when SARS happened so quickly and spread across borders in days! They learned to co-operate quickly to contain the SARS and prevent it from spreading rapidly and becoming a pandemic nightmare that could have killed millions of lives!

The World Health Organization has issued several warnings on the impending bird flu pandemic which means it is not about whether it is going to happen or not but when it is going to happen? Many governments have taken action to stock up on millions of dollars worth of Tamiflu and other drugs to prepare themselves for the bird flu pandemic.

But we all know there will not be sufficient drugs for all people, it is grossly inadequate and in fact estimates from experts indicate that the present drugs available will be enough for less than 1% of the world population of over 6 billion. So how are the 99% going to survive a bird flu pandemic? That is the trillion dollar question all government leaders, scientists and doctors must answer to.

They are wise enough to know that when they die they cannot take a cent with them but they can go with that peace of mind that they have done their best and made a positive difference to millions of lives!
